Five Friendlies Unveiled

作者:薄其文 时间:2007-11-30 本文热度: 等级:
The mascots for the Beijing 2008 Olympics were finally unveiled(亮相) in Beijing on November 11th. Rather than go with one, two or even three, the organizing committee chose five figures as symbols(象征) of the 2008 Games. The day also marks the 1,000-day countdown to the opening of the Beijing Games.
The “Five Friendlies” are Beibei the Fish, Jingjing the Panda, Huanhuan the Olympic Flame, Yingying the Tibetan Antelope(藏羚羊), and Nini the Swallow. When these names are put together, they say Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni, which means “Welcome to Beijing”.
Liu Qi, BOCOG President, said, “Like our friends from other countries around the world, we are looking forward to having a merry meeting in Beijing. During the next 1,000 days, we shall do our best for the games preparation so as to meet our goal of putting on a high-level Olympic Games.”
Designed by Han Meilin, a famous artist, the clever figures are in the colors of the five Olympic rings and embody(体现) the Olympic spirit. Experts say they also reflect the traditional Chinese concern for harmony(和谐)between man and nature.
As we enter 2006, China is in the last period of preparation work. For the country, hosting the Olympics is not just about sport. It’s a symbol of its new image in the world.
